Don H. Liu Scholars Program

Founded in 2014 by the Asian American Bar Association of New York ("AABANY”), the Don H. Liu Scholars Program seeks to identify and cultivate future Asian American leaders of the legal profession in order to address the single most important issue facing Asian American professionals today – the barrier to advancement.

Each Don H. Lu Scholar will receive: 

  • A financial scholarship of $15,000;
  • Access to numerous AABANY programs;
  • Opportunities for summer employment and internships; and
  • Mentoring, guidance and support by the Scholarship Committee and others throughout his/her law school and legal careers.

  • Eligibility
    Scholarships will be awarded to first-year law students. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must

    Be enrolled full-time in a New York City metropolitan area law school;
    Be among the first in their immediate family to pursue a graduate or professional degree;
    Have demonstrated exceptional academic and leadership accomplishments or show promise through work and/or other activities
    Have demonstrated financial need; and
    Intend to practice in the New York City metropolitan area following graduation.

    To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of Asian descent
    • Be enrolled full-time as a 1L in a New York City metropolitan area law school**
    • Be among the first in their immediate family to pursue a graduate or professional degree
    • Have demonstrated exceptional academic and leadership accomplishments or show promise through work and/or other activities
    • Have demonstrated financial need
    • Intend to practice in the New York City metropolitan area following graduation
