The Defense Association of New York Scholarship

The Defense Association of New York Scholarship (DANY Scholarship) has been established and funded for the purpose of awarding scholarships to law students and/or legal education programs selected by The Defense Association of New York (DANY) Board of Directors to award law students who and legal education programs that share DANY's objective of a well educated bar possessing the finest qualities and character.

The Brandeis Association of Queens County Scholarships

The Brandeis Association of Queens County provides scholarships to Jewish law students in the 2nd or 3rd year of study, who are residents of Queens County or who are attending law school in Queens County. In awarding the scholarships, consideration will be given to financial need, legal scholarship and community involvement.

2011 Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship

The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for the 2011 Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship.

Jerome M. Ginsberg Scholarship and the Hon. Moses M. Weinstein Scholarship

The Brandeis Association is proud to announce the Jerome M. Ginsberg Scholarship and the Hon. Moses M. Weinstein Scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year.  The Brandeis Association will be awarding two scholarships of $2500 per student.

The Brandeis Association of Queens County provides scholarships to Jewish law students in the 2nd or 3rd year of study, who are residents of Queens County or who are attending law school in Queens County. In awarding the scholarships consideration will be given to financial need, legal scholarship and community involvement.

Vietnamese American Bar Association Scholarship

VABA-DC was established, in part, to contribute to the public interest by serving as a voice for the local Vietnamese American community and assisting community members with legal concerns. In furtherance of that mission, they will sponsor two $1,000 scholarships for law students on the Eastern Coast of the United States who demonstrate a commitment to serving their Vietnamese American communities.

This year, the VABA-DC Scholarship Dinner will be held in conjunction with the National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys 2011 (“NCVAA”), to be held April 1-2, 2011, in Washington, D.C. The recipients of this year’s scholarships will be honored at the NCVAA Scholarship Dinner & Banquet on Saturday, April 2, 2011.

The William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition

In 1992, the New York Intellectual Property Lawyer Association (NYIPLA) established “The William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition,” created for law students currently enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program.

The winner will receive a cash award in the amount of $ 1,500.00 and will be invited to attend the NYIPLA Annual Meeting and Dinner, which will be held at the Harvard Club, in New York City, on May 24, 2011. Additionally, the winning paper will be considered for publication in the NYIPLA Bulletin, which is a prestigious publication granting the student incredible exposure to prominent members within the Intellectual Property field. The runner-up will receive a cash award of $ 1,000.00 and will also be invited to attend the NYIPLA Annual Meeting and Dinner.

All entries must be written on any of the traditional subject areas of Intellectual Property, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade practices and antitrust, and, must be submitted by March 11, 2011.

WE CARE Diversity Law School Scholarship

The Nassau County Bar Association is providing the WE CARE Diversity Law School Scholarship to a deserving Touro Law student scheduled to graduate in May 2012.  The amount of the scholarship is $2,500.

Please submit a one page essay explaining how you plan to promote diversity in your practice of law in Nassau County. The essay is due by Monday, March 21, 2011. Please send the essay as a Word document to Marie Koch, Director of Student Services and Scholarship Aid, at mkoch@tourolaw.edu or deliver a hard copy to the Office of Student Services, room 302.

*Prior recipients are not eligible for this scholarship.

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund

The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women for Justice Education Fund in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it. The Scholarship is awarded annually to a female student entering their third year of law school (the student can be enrolled in a three-year day program or four-year night program) who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized.

International Association of Defense Counsel Legal Writing Contest

The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) announces the 2011 Legal Writing Contest.  The IADC is a professional association that has been serving an invitation-only membership of international corporate and insurance civil defense lawyers since 1920.

Prize-winning articles and honorable mentions will be considered for publication in the Defense Counsel Journal, the IADC's quarterly academic publication that reaches a broad legal audience from around the world.

American Judges Association Twenty-Third Annual Law Student Essay Competition

The American Judges Association (AJA) announces its Twenty-Third Annual Law Student Essay Competition open to all full-time law students enrolled in and attending an accredited law school in the United States and Canada.  The first prize for the contest is $3,000; second is $1,500; and third is $1,000.

Entries must be submitted no later than June 1, 2011.

2011 American Inns of Court Warren E. Burger Prize Writing Competition

You are invited to participate in the 2011 American Inns of Court Warren E. Burger Prize writing competition. 

The American Inns of Court invites judges, lawyers, professors, students, scholars, and other authors to participate in the competition by submitting an original, unpublished essay of 10,000 to 25,000 words on a topic of their choice addressing issues of legal excellence, civility, ethics and professionalism.

The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2011.
