Every year, the American College of Legal Medicine (ACLM) presents an award for the outstanding original paper on legal medicine.  All students studying law, dentistry, podiatry, nursing, pharmacy, health science, healthcare administration or public health are encouraged to compete.

Panelists will provide suggestions on “Avoiding the Funk” while in transition. They will address issues of lawyers working from home or job searching from home, including:

 Feeling of loneliness and alienation

 Procrastination

 Lack of collaboration

 Feelings of exasperation and “the world conspiring against you”

 Understanding finding the job, client, etc. isn’t in your control- all you can do is position yourself, apply, network, etc- the universe does the rest

Family Law Writing Competition

The Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and Family Court Review are sponsoring their annual Family Law Writing Competition. The writing competition is a method through which the AFCC and Family Court Review recognize family law scholarship among law students. Family Court Review is the flagship family law journal at Hofstra Law School and is the official journal of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC).

Submission are being accepted through March 16, 2012.  Possible submission topics include:

International Adoption
Use of Mental Health Experts in Divorce
Domestic Violence in Same-Sex Partnerships,
Third Party Visitation Rights
Mediating in Child Protective Cases
Or, you may create your own!

Entries will be judged on the quality of legal analysis, originality, depth of research, timelines, creativity, and format. They must be no longer than 25 double spaced pages.

The First Prize winner will receive $500, a certificate of recognition, and consideration for publication of the article in the Family Court Review. Alternatively the winner may choose to receive complimentary conference registration for AFCC’s 49th Annual Conference on June 6 – 9, 2011 in Chicago Illinois. Honorable mentions also receive awards. The 2012 Tannenwald Writing Competition

Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs Third International Essay Contest

As part of its third annual SEPTEMBER SUSTAINABILITY MONTH, the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs announces its third International Essay Contest. This competition is open to both teachers and students anywhere in the world.

ESSAY TITLE: What does sustainability mean to you?

HOW TO ENTER
This competition is open to teachers and students of all nationalities.

All teachers, at whatever level, are eligible. All students, from high school students through to graduate students, are eligible. Non-students are automatically disqualified.

Suffolk County Women's Bar Association Essay Contest

THE SUFFOLK COUNTY CHAPTER OF THE WOMEN’S BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE A SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST FOR TOURO COLLEGE JACOB D.FUCHSBERG LAW CENTER SCHOOL OF LAW - ALL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

One student from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center will receive a $500 cash award and a one year membership in the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association for the year following graduation. The winner will also be their guest at the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association Annual Installation Dinner in June, 2012 where the scholarship will be presented.

Hogan/Smoger Access to Justice Essay Contest

The 2012 Hogan/Smoger Access to Justice Essay Contest was established in 1970 by the prominent environmental lawyer, the late Roscoe B. Hogan of Birmingham, Alabama, and served to provide law students the opportunity to investigate and offer solutions to the multitude of injustices inflicted on the environment.  The Hogan/Smoger Access to Justice Essay Contest has a broader scale by focusing on whether and how the courts can be used to obtain justice, including for injuries to the environment.

The contest is a $5,000 cash award given to the author of the winning essay.  The 2012 topic is: Are Factory Farms Hog-Tying People's Rights?
