NASSAU COUNTY WOMEN’S BAR FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION



One of the missions of The Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation is to advance the status of women in the law. One of the ways to advance this mission is to grant a scholarship to an outstanding woman who has displayed a commitment to continuing to attend law school through her 2L and 3L years.
If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, please fill out the enclosed application and return it with all requested materials to: Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation, Inc., Scholarship Application Committee, P.O. Box 395, Garden City, NY 11530.

To qualify for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:


1) The applicant must be a woman.
2) The applicant must be a resident of Nassau County.
3) The applicant must have been accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited law school in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, Westchester, or Bronx Counties.

4) The applicant must have graduated college with a GPA of at least 3.0.
5) The applicant must maintain a GPA of at least 2.75 while enrolled in Law School during the year toward which the scholarship funds are applied.
6) The applicant should display characteristics consistent with the mission of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation.
7) The applicant must display financial need.


The postmark deadline for applications is APRIL 30, 2017. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED – SEE CHECKLIST AT THE END. Applicants may be asked to appear for an interview.

The 2018 Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship

The 2018 Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship Application Is Now Available!
 
Application deadline is June 16, 2017.
 
Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, appreciated, and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. These qualities enrich the environment in which we work. With this in mind, Baker Donelson will again award three scholarships to diverse law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2017. Recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position for the summer of 2018 in one of our Firm’s offices.  Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses.

2017 IADC Legal Writing Contest is available for all the J.D. candidates who are currently enrolled in accredited law schools.

The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) is delighted to announce its IADC Legal Writing Contest to all law school students. All J.D. candidates currently enrolled in accredited law schools are eligible to participate in the Writing Contest. Entrants must write on subjects in the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence or other areas of the law of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense, or management of the defense of civil litigationThe program will worth total $3,500 award. The first place winner will get US $2,000, second place winner US $1,000, and third place winner US $500.
The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) has been serving a distinguished membership of corporate and insurance defense attorneys and insurance executives since 1920.The Association was created in 1920 by a group of general counsels, calling themselves the General Counsels’ Association of the United States. Its purpose was to foster good will and cooperation among general counsel who shared common interests and challenges.

Financial Aid and Award Money:

  • US $500 to the third place winner
  • Honorary mentions receive no monetary awards

OEDB.org Scholarships

The American Association for University Women recently reported that 53% of women have high student loan debt just one year after graduation, compared to 39% of men. Many women also face the added difficulties of trying to go to college for the first time later in life, returning to school after long gaps of time, and attaining a degree while being a single parent.

The National Law Review is hosting its 2017 Law Student Writing Competition.

The National Law Review (NLR) consolidates practice-oriented legal analysis from a variety of sources for easy access by lawyers, paralegals, law students, business executives, insurance professionals, accountants, compliance officers, human resource managers, and other professionals who wish to better understand specific legal issues relevant to their work.

The NLR Law Student Writing Competition offers law students the opportunity to submit articles for publication consideration on the NLR Web site.

Each month's entries will be judged and the top two to four articles chosen will be published on the NLR website.

Students have the opportunity to publicly display their legal knowledge and skills.
The student's photo, biography, and contact information will be posted with each article, allowing for professional recognition and exposure.

Winning articles are published alongside those written by respected attorneys froAm Law 200 and other prominent firms as well as from other respected professional associations.
Now more than ever, business development skills are expected from law firm associates earlier in their careers. NLR wants to give law students valuable experience generating consumer-friendly legal content of the sort which is included for publication in law firm client newsletters, law firm blogs, bar association journals and trade association publications.
Student postings will remain in the NLR online database for up to two years, easily accessed by potential employers.

  • Applicants must be a resident of the U.S. and registered at a U.S. college or university.

  • The Enjuris Scholarship Essay Contest Application Form must also be submitted.
  • Only one submission per student will be considered.

Scholarship selection process
Judges will examine all entries received by the deadline above. Entries will be judged on argument presented as well as reader-friendliness for online audiences. The winner will be selected within two weeks of the submission deadline. One winner will be awarded the scholarship amount, and notable entries will also be published on the Enjuris blog.

Staten Island Women’s Bar Association Scholarship

The Staten Island Women’s Bar Association (“SIWBA”), a chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (“WBASNY”), has a long standing tradition of promoting the advancement of the status of women in society and women in the legal profession, as well as promoting the fair administration of justice. The SIWBA gives a voice to issues of particular importance to women and women attorneys on a state and national level.
In further support of its mission, the SIWBA has created an annual scholarship to provide a monetary grant in the amount of $1,000 to a law student who supports the organization’s goals.
The scholarship is open to male and female applicants whose permanent residence is located in Staten Island, New York. It should be noted that students who reside at school during the academic year may apply.
