ESSAY TOPIC:
- The federal government reports that there were approximately 424,000 people injured in accidents involving distracted drivers during 2013. Smartphones and other personal electronic devices account for a significant percentage of driver distractions, and many states have enacted legislation prohibiting or limiting cell phones use in an effort to reduce the number of distracted drivers on the road. These measures have been met with varying degrees of success and are often very difficult to enforce. What steps could lawmakers take to strengthen current laws that are aimed at reducing distracted driving and what additional legal measures could be passed to make our roads safer?
