The Bernadine Johnson-Marshall and Martha Bell Williams Scholarship

The Association of Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey, Inc. (ABWL-NJ), founded in 1975, is the longest running women’s bar association in New Jersey. As a non-profit and non-partisan organization, ABWL-NJ is dedicated to community involvement, education, diversity in the legal profession and initiatives designed to encourage greater participation of African-American women in the field of law.

The Bernadine Johnson-Marshall and Martha Bell Williams Scholarship program is one of several significant ABWL-NJ annual program activities. Scholarships in honor of Bernadine Johnson-Marshall and Martha Bell Williams, the first two African-American women admitted to the New Jersey Bar, will be awarded to law students selected by ABWL's Scholarship Committee. Eligible applicants must be either: (1) enrolled at an accredited law school in New Jersey; or (2) New Jersey permanent residents enrolled at an accredited law school outside of New Jersey.

The scholarship awards will be presented at the ABWL-NJ Annual Scholarship Jazz Brunch, which will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at The Westin Princeton-Forrestal Ballroom, 201 Village Boulevard, Princeton, New Jersey 08540.
