On May 14, 2019, the Multicultural Judges and Lawyers Section ("MJL Section") of the Delaware State Bar Association will hold its annual Judge Haile L. Alford Memorial Breakfast. The event is held in honor of Haile L. Alford, the first African-American female judge in the State of Delaware. Judge Alford was appointed by Governor Mike Castle in 1992 and served on the bench until her untimely death in 2003 at the age of 54.
During the Alford Memorial Breakfast, the MJL Section intends to grant the 2019 Alford Excellence Award, a $3,000 scholarship, to at least three future practitioners who will sit for the July 2019 Delaware Bar Examination.
Must submit the application to sit for the 2019 Delaware Bar by May 15. 2019.
All application materials should be submitted via email by April 12, 2019.

- Resume
- Awards/Recognition Certificates, etc.
- Personal Essay (1000 words)- MUST address why applicant desires to actively practice law in Delaware and or their ties and commitment to the state of Delaware. This scholarship is intended to help supplement the costs of sitting for the DELAWARE BAR.
- Letter of Recommendation
Each scholarship recipient will be required to submit proof of a submitted application to sit for the 2019 Delaware Bar by May 15, 2019. Failure to do so will lead to forfeiture of the scholarship. All application materials should be submitted via email by April 12, 2019 to:
