On May 14, 2019, the Multicultural Judges and Lawyers Section ("MJL Section") of the Delaware State Bar Association will hold its annual Judge Haile L. Alford Memorial Breakfast. The event is held in honor of Haile L. Alford, the first African-American female judge in the State of Delaware. Judge Alford was appointed by Governor Mike Castle in 1992 and served on the bench until her untimely death in 2003 at the age of 54.

During the Alford Memorial Breakfast, the MJL Section intends to grant the 2019 Alford Excellence Award, a $3,000 scholarship, to at least three future practitioners who will sit for the July 2019 Delaware Bar Examination. 

Must submit the application to sit for the 2019 Delaware Bar by May 15. 2019.
All application materials should be submitted via email by April 12, 2019.

  • Personal Essay (1000 words)- MUST address why applicant desires to actively practice law in Delaware and or their ties and commitment to the state of Delaware. This scholarship is intended to help supplement the costs of sitting for the DELAWARE BAR.
  • Letter of Recommendation 

Each scholarship recipient will be required to submit proof of a submitted application to sit for the 2019 Delaware Bar by May 15, 2019. Failure to do so will lead to forfeiture of the scholarship. All application materials should be submitted via email by April 12, 2019 to:

Subject: 2019 Jana Springer Behe Corporate Counsel Section Fellowship (Deadline Extended)

The Fellowship's goal is twofold. First, to provide the selected organizations with the chance to have students from a diverse range of backgrounds provide assistance without cost. Second, to provide students from a diverse range of backgrounds with an opportunity to experience in-house legal practice. 


Candidates must be a second-year law student from a New York law school from under-represented groups capable of fulfilling the requested work hours and responsibilities. A minimum GPA of 2.5, a letter of interest with a discussion about your personal commitment to diversity and how being from an under-represented group has impacted you along with a writing sample will be required upon application.
The fellowship will take place at The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Utica, NY. The Program shall operate during the summer of 2019, and will include a $7,000 stipend.

The Richard D. Hailey Scholarship

Subject: The Richard D. Hailey Scholarship.

The American Association for Justice’s (AAJ) Minority Caucus will award one law student the RICHARD D. HAILEY SCHOLARSHIP.

In 1997, Mr. Hailey was appointed as the first African American president of the American Association for Justice. He possesses over 35 years of legal experience and currently handles a wide variety of complex personal injury cases. Mr. Hailey is recognized nationwide as a trailblazer of justice and change. In 2000, Mr. Hailey traveled to South Africa to assist in the initial formation of the South African Trial Lawyers Association, which was the first organized bar in South Africa after it approved its new constitution under President Mandela. The Minority Caucus of the AAJ honors the accomplishments and trial advocacy skills of Mr. Hailey by providing an annual scholarship.

This May, AAJ’s Minority Caucus will award one $5,000 scholarship to a minority law student who is entering his or her 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of law school. By awarding one deserving student the Richard D. Hailey Scholarship, the AAJ’s Minority Caucus hopes to accommodate a student of color by providing financial assistance to further develop his or her educational growth.

Applicants for the scholarship should demonstrate the following criteria:
· Exhibit a strong interest in trial advocacy;
· Express a desire to represent those who have been injured by negligence or misconduct of others;
· Promote accountability and safety;
· A commitment to AAJ and dedication to its mission through involvement in the AAJ student chapter and Minority Caucus activities; and
· A financial need for the scholarship.

The deadline is May 1, 2019.
Each application must include the following:
· A resumé;
· A 500-word essay explaining how you meet the scholarship’s criteria;
· Up to three (3) letters of recommendations from a faculty advisor, trial advocacy professor, dean, AAJ member, or trial lawyer; and
· A completed form verifying your student status.

Every applicant must be an AAJ law student member (https://www.justice.org/membership/join-american-association-justice) and enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school. For all students who apply, please note that following the announcement of the winning scholarship recipient, he or she must attend the AAJ Annual Convention in San Diego, California from July 27th – 30th to receive the award. Travel and accommodations will be provided.

The Saratoga County Bar Association Scholarship 2019.

Subject: The Saratoga County Bar Association Scholarship 2019.

The Saratoga County Bar Association will be offering two scholarships to students of  Touro Law School who are in their 2nd or 3rd years of study and are residents of Saratoga County. Each scholarship is worth $1,000.00. In addition, the scholarship committee will consider an applicant's class rank, demonstration of leadership, community involvement and financial need in making its determination of an award. Both scholarship winners will be recognized at the annual Law Day Luncheon on May 1, 2019, at Longfellow's in Saratoga Springs. The application is due and must be postmarked by April 1, 2019.

Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship (Extended Deadline)

The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the 2019 Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship. The scholarship is open to all second-year (2L) students as of spring 2019 semester enrolled in a law school in the State of New York. The scholarship will be awarded to one law school student who excels in legal writing and advocacy skills. Criteria for judging entries will be organization, practicality, originality, quality of research, clarity of writing and advocacy. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 and will be applied to the student's tuition for the 2019-2020 academic year.



The deadline for submission of all application materials is Friday, April 12, 2019.

For 2019, the Reeves Law Group will award a $5,000 scholarship to a deserving applicant who authors a winning essay in their Seventh Annual Scholarship Essay Contest. The Reeves Law Group considers helping people in need by providing them with their resources as one of their most significant rewards. Thus, the Reeves Law Group is pleased to support a future lawyer who demonstrates through past, current, and expected future deeds a genuine commitment to serve the less fortunate. The Reeves Law Group would like to know what students can do for the community. The application for the scholarship essay requires students to tell their story in a brief narrative of 750-1000 words, with an introduction of who they are, their interest, and anything else they wish to share with the law group. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates a genuine desire and goal of using the legal system to fix problems or improve conditions in our society.

The application is open to undergrads in their senior year and current law school students.
The application deadline is December 15th, 2019.
