International Humanitarian Law Student Writing Competition

The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law, the American Society of International Law's Lieber Society, and the American Red Cross International Humanitarian Law team seek submissions of papers for the Fifth Annual International Humanitarian Law Student Writing Competition. This competition aims to promote interest and enhance scholarships in international humanitarian law among students as well as deepen their understanding of this important area of international law.

TOPIC:
The theme of the 2015 Competition is "The Intersection of the International Humanitarian Law and Gender." Papers should focus on the ways in which IHL intersects with gender issues, such as the role of women as combatants, the gendered use of sexual violence during times of armed conflict, the impact of gender stereotyping on international humanitarian law, etc.

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:
Submissions must be unpublished academic papers written solely in English by the candidate.

DEADLINE: 
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

AWARD:
The winning author will receive $500 cash prize and a one- year ASIL student membership.
