Fifth Annual International Humanitarian Law Student Writing Competition

TOPIC:

The theme of the 2015 Competition is "The intersection of International Humanitarian Law and Gender." Paper should focus on the ways in which IHL intersects with gender issues, such as the role of women as combatants, the gendered use of sexual violence during times of armed conflict, the impact of gender stereotyping on international humanitarian law, etc. Papers without a direct focus on this theme will not be reviewed.

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:

Papers must be written by students currently enrolled in a law degree program at a U.S. or foreign law school as of the submission deadline. Submissions must be unpublished academic papers written solely in English by the candidate. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 11:59 PM (EST).

AWARD:

The winning author will receive $500 cash prize and a one-year ASIL student membership. The winning author will also have the opportunity to present their paper in discussion with a panel of expert professors and practitioners through an online virtual conference.
