2014 Legal Writing Contest

All J.D. candidates currently enrolled in accredited law schools are eligible to participate in the IADC Legal Writing Contest. Entrants must write on subjects in the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence or other areas of the law of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense or management of the defense of civil litigation. The contest is judged by a committee of the IADC.

5th Annual Adam S. Kaplan Memorial Scholarship

Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth, Inc. (LIGALY) is proud to announce the 5th Annual Adam S. Kaplan Memorial Scholarship.  Scholarships are intended for GLBT identified students who are committed to affecting change in the GLBT community, are involved in a leadership role, and actively involved with helping other GLBT youth.

Queens County Bar Association Scholarship

The Queens County Bar Association will be awarding a scholarship to a deserving law student in the spring semester. The scholarship will be based upon personal financial need, a commitment to community service and academic achievement as demonstrated by your  personal statement and letters of recommendations. The applicant must be enrolled in a law school in the Metropolitan Area or be a resident of Queens County. These scholarships are available to First, Second, or final year law student.

Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award

In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender’s Office.

The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event.  It is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School.

2014 Selma Moidel Smith Law Student Writing Competition

The National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL)® is a national voluntary legal professional organization whose mission is the advancement of women in the legal profession and women's rights. Since 1899, NAWL has served as an educational forum and active voice for the concerns of women lawyers in this country and abroad. NAWL continues to support and advance the interests of women in and under the law, and in so doing, supports and advances the social, political, and professional empowerment of women. Through its programs and networks, NAWL provides the tools for women in the profession to advance, prosper and enrich the profession. NAWL has established the annual Selma Moidel Smith Law Student Writing Competition to encourage and reward original law student writing on issues concerning women and the law. The rules for the competition are as follows:

SUBMISSION AND DEADLINE: Entries must be received by May 1, 2014.

AWARD: The author of the winning essay will receive a cash prize of $500. NAWL will also publish the winning essay in NAWL's Women Lawyers Journal in Fall 2014.

Albert M. Sacks Clinical Teaching & Advocacy Fellowship

Call for Applications: Albert M. Sacks Clinical Teaching & Advocacy Fellowship at the Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinical Program

The fellowship will provide an opportunity for an attorney to work at the Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinical Program on direct representation, appellate litigation, and policy advocacy work, starting in the summer of 2014. The Fellow will assist with the supervision of clinical students and work closely with experienced attorneys and clinicians at Harvard Law School and Greater Boston LegalServices.
Application deadline for this position is February 15, 2014.
JD earned within 3 years of hire date required. Candidates with experience in immigration removal and asylum practice strongly preferred. Second language capability in Spanish or French preferred.

Three 2 Year Interdisciplinary Research Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Denver

The University of Denver Interdisciplinary Research Institute for the Study of (In)Equality (IRISE), a new interdisciplinary center dedicated to research and creative work that addresses issues of (in)equality, social justice, and inclusivity, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship beginning September 1, 2014 researching the following areas:

2014 Hogan/Smoger Access to Justice Essay Contest

The Hogan/Smoger Access to Justice Essay Contest is a $5,000 cash award given to the author of the winning essay.  The 2014 topic is: Are Recent Supreme Court Preemption Decisions Consistent with the Seventh Amendment?  Any student currently enrolled in an accredited American law school may submit a legal essay for the competition.  Essays can only be written during the academic year covered by the competition and may not be prepared as part of paid legal work outside of law school.

Hudson County Bar Foundation Scholarship Fund

The Hudson County Bar Foundation will award scholarships to students who are attending law school or who have been accepted to law school for the September 2014 – May 2015 term.

The Hudson County Bar Foundation Scholarship Fund is one of the oldest providers of financial assistance to Hudson County law students. Esteemed members and families of the Hudson County legal community have funded these 45 scholarships.

Students must be bona fide residents of Hudson County; must demonstrate financial need; must provide two (2) current Letters of Recommendation and must account for appropriate academic standards.

The deadline for the Rising Scholar Award is six months away, but it's not too early to start-or to encourage your eligible associates to submit an article.
 
To be eligible, entrants must be members of the ABA Forum on Franchising and zero to four years out of law school. Qualified participants should prepare articles according to Franchise Law Journal author guidelines. The due date is July 14, 2014. The submissions will be judged by current and former members of the Franchise Law Journal and The Franchise Lawyer editorial boards. The current Forum chair will also be consulted and provide input on the selection of the winning article.

The author of the winning article will receive the following: (1) the article will be considered for publication in a future edition of Franchise Law Journal; (2) the author will be recognized and presented with a plaque at the Annual Forum on Franchising; (3) the author will receive a small financial award to reimburse in part expenses for traveling to the Annual Forum for the award presentation; and (4) the author's registration fee for attending the Annual Forum will be waived.

Articles must be submitted to Bethany L. Appleby, the current Editor-in-Chief of the Franchise Law Journal, by no later than Monday, July 14, 2014, to be considered in this year's competition.  All inquiries about the competition should be directed to:  bappleby@wiggin.com.
