Attention Students: American Constitution Society Convention in Washington, D.C.

The American Constitution Society has over 200 Lawyer and Student Chapters; they hold substantive discussions about various issues in different areas of the law.  ACS is an educational legal society composed of lawyers, law students, academics and judges.

ACS would like to start a chapter at Touro Law.  This June the eighth annual ACS Convention will be held in D.C.  ACS would like Touro Law students to attend the convention and meet with fellow ACSers in D.C. in June!  Student attendance at the convention will prove to be a great experience for those interested in starting an ACS chapter.

This year, the Convention will commence with a gala dinner on Thursday evening, June 17, featuring Senator Al Franken.  Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will address a luncheon on Friday, June 18 and Rep. Linda Sanchez will deliver remarks at an evening reception. They will also have many engaging panels and plenary panels all day Friday, June 18, and Saturday morning. The Convention will conclude with a Saturday luncheon featuring Newark Mayor Cory Booker followed by the ACS Student Chapter Retreat.  It is sure to be an amazing time for all who attend.

Hazeen Ashby, the Associate Director for Student Chapters, is working with students to provide scholarships to attend the convention.  Scholarships range from the following:

·         Full Convention Registration covered (Reg. Cost $150)
·         Half of Convention Registration covered (only pay $75) and a Travel Scholarship; or
·         Half of Convention Registration covered (only pay $75) and a Housing Scholarship

The convention is being held at the historic Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. from Thursday evening through Saturday evening (June 17 – June 19).  For a complete list of convention speakers and the convention schedule, please visit: http://acslaw.org/convention10 .
