ENVIRONMENTAL LAW ESSAY CONTEST



THIRTEENTH ANNUAL
ENVIRONMENTAL LAW ESSAY CONTEST
Sponsored by the Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan The Contest:

The following prizes will be awarded: $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place. Winning essays will be published in the Michigan Environmental Law Journal.  Other essays submitted may also be published and $250 paid to the author of each non-winning essay after it is published.  Prize winners will be announced no later than September 30, 2014.

Topic:  Any environmental law topic of current interest to Michigan environmental lawyers.

Eligibility:  The contest is open to all students enrolled at any time between September 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014 in any U.S. or Canadian law school (LL.B. J.D., LL.M. or other law degree). Essays must be original and not previously published.  Essays may have been submitted for course credit or for law review, but not as part of paid employment.

Length and Format:

Essays should be between 10 and 25 pages, typed in 12 point font and double-spaced.   Use footnotes, not endnotes.  Submit your entry on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, with a disk or e-mail version in Word. Judging:

Criteria for judging entries include originality, interest to Michigan environmental lawyers, quality of analysis of legal and environmental issues, quality of research, clarity of writing, and organization. Entries will be judged by the editors of the Michigan Environmental Law Journal. All rights to entries will become the property of the State Bar of Michigan. The editors of the Journal reserve the right to make editorial changes.

Submit entries to Christopher J. Dunsky, 28 McKinley Place, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, 48236 (cdunsky@comcast.net).  Entries must be postmarked by June 30, 2014. Include a cover letter stating your name, mailing address (both school and permanent), telephone number, name of law school, expected year of law school graduation, and a statement that the essay was not written as part of paid employment.
