Asian American Law Fund of NewYork Community Service Scholarship Awards Program

• The Asian American Law Fund of New York, Inc. (formerly known as The AABANY Foundation, Inc.), a non-profit organization established by the Asian American Bar Association of New York, invites law students to apply for its Community Service Scholarship Awards Program for the summer of 2018.  
• The purpose of the Program is to encourage law students to use their legal knowledge and training to assist the Asian American community in New York and to foster commitments by law students to public service.  
• Each student is expected to work at least 8 weeks, 35 hours per week, during the summer of 2018 on a legal project involving the Asian American community in the New York metropolitan area and agrees to apply the award to the payment of law school tuition.  
• The Fund will grant awards in the amount of $5,000 each to up to three law students, which will be distributed to students around June 2018.
• Deadline: Applicants must submit a completed and signed scholarship application form by March 30, 2018.

Office of the General Counsel (OGC) 2018 Volunteer Internship Opportunity

• Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is considering a legal volunteer internship opportunity with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in Washington DC.
• OGC provides legal advice to help ensure the Federal Government has an effective civilian workforce, through programs such as government-wide hiring procedures; background investigations and security clearances; fair practices in personnel management; and pension benefits and health insurance for Federal employees and retirees.
• Interns will assist OGC attorneys in providing legal advice to MCC staff on issues related to the development of new compact and other assistance programs and implementation of existing compact and related programs.

ClassADrivers.com Scholarship

• ClassADrivers.com is offering a scholarship to a student who is currently studying at or has been accepted to an accredited University.
• One student will be selected to receive $1,314.15 USD in scholarship funds based on the quality and accuracy of the student’s essay.

• The applicant must write an essay of 1,000+ words on the topic of: “Tech and Truckers: How Can Truck Drivers Take Advantage of Future Leaps in Technology?”
• Specifically, the essay should answer the following questions:
• 1. What scenarios do you see for truck drivers to remain a valuable and successful resource in the workforce of 2023 (5 years from today)?
• 2. How should drivers prepare and what skills they would need to hone to get ready for the future challenges?
• An internal committee will decide the top 5 submissions, and the community of truck drivers on ClassADrivers.com will vote on the best written essay and assign the Award by June 15th, 2018.

Queens County Bar Association Scholarship

• The Queens County Bar Association will award a monetary scholarship to a deserving law student this coming Spring.
• The scholarship is awarded based on financial need, a commitment to community service and academic achievement.
• Law students that are eligible to apply must be currently enrolled in a law school in the Metropolitan area or be a resident of Queens County.
• Applicants must also write a brief statement of not more than 200 words concerning your professional goals, particularly emphasizing significant community service activities or events in areas that you have been employed or volunteered.
• Deadline: Application along with college and law school transcripts to be filed and received no later than April 6, 2018.

2018 Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Fellowship Announcement

• Chief Judge Colleen McMahon is pleased to announce that the Southern District of New York is accepting applications for the Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Judicial Internship for the summer of 2018.
• The New York Bar Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Fellowship (1) valued at $5000.
• The fellowship provides a $5,000 tuition credit directly to the law school of the student selected to serve as the Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Intern to the Court during the summer of 2018.
• The scholarship is open to all first-year (1L) students and second-year (2L) students as of spring 2018 semester enrolled in a law school in the State of New York.
• The Intern may be asked to work with other judges, clerks, and interns to complete the assigned research projects.

35th Annual Smith-Babcock-Williams 
Student Writing Competition

• The Planning & Law Division of the American Planning Association is pleased to announce its 35th Annual Smith-Babcock-Williams Student Writing Competition.
• The Competition is open to law students and planning students writing on a question of significance in planning, planning law, land use law, local government law or environmental law.
• Students are encouraged to submit relevant research papers and law review or journal notes prepared throughout the academic year.
•  The winning entry will be awarded a prize of $2,000 and submitted for publication in The Urban Lawyer, the law journal of the American Bar Association's Section of State & Local Government Law.
• The Second Place paper will receive a prize of $400 and one Honorable Mention prize of $100 will also be awarded.
