The Association of Black
Women Lawyers of New Jersey, Inc. (ABWL-NJ), founded in 1975, is the longest
running women’s bar association in New Jersey. As a non-profit and
non-partisan organization, ABWL-NJ is dedicated to community involvement,
education, diversity in the legal profession and initiatives designed to
encourage greater participation of African-American women in the field of law.
The Bernadine
Johnson-Marshall and Martha Bell Williams Scholarship program is one of several
significant ABWL-NJ annual program activities. Scholarships in their
honor will again be awarded to female law students of African descent selected
by the Scholarship Committee who are either: (1) enrolled at an accredited law
school in New Jersey; or (2) New Jersey permanent residents enrolled at
an accredited law school outside of New Jersey.
To be eligible, the student must be a 1L, 2L or Part-time 3L. (Students expecting to graduate in 2013 are
not eligible). Previous ABWL scholarship recipients will not be
considered. The upcoming awards will be
presented to the selected law students at the ABWL-NJ Annual Scholarship Jazz
Brunch, which will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at The Pines Manor, 2085
Route 27, Edison, New Jersey 08817.
