Nassau County Bar Association Needs Your Help!

The Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) is running an important program on February 18, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm designed to help Haitians with respect to issues including Temporary Protective Status (TPS).

NCBA is in need of volunteers including those who are able to speak French and also Creole.  They need non-attorneys who can translate and attorneys who can both translate and volunteer their time.

Those who are interested and are attorneys can attend a training program set for February 9^th.

Joseph H. Gellert, Dutchess County Bar Association Scholarship

The Community Foundation of Dutchess County in conjunction with the Dutchess County Bar Association is pleased to offer the Joseph H. Gellert, Dutchess County Bar Association Scholarship. 

Created by the law firm of Gellert & Klein, P.C. in honor of its founder, The Honorable Joseph H. Gellert, and supplemented by members of the community, the Joseph H. Gellert, Dutchess County Bar Association Scholarship funds an annual scholarship (awarded through the Dutchess County Bar Association) to a resident of Dutchess County (click on the picture to view a zip code list to identify if you are eligible) who is matriculated in an accredited law school.  The student must have completed at least one year of law school to apply.

Applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2010.

27th Annual Smith-Babcock-Williams Student Writing Competition

The Planning and Law Division of the American Planning Association announces its 27th Annual Smith-Babcock-Williams Student Writing Competition.  The competition, which honors the memory of three leading figures in American city planning law -- R. Marlin Smith, Richard Babcock, and Norman Williams -- is open to law students and planning students, writing on a question of significance in planning, planning law, land use law, local government law or environmental law.

The deadline for submission is June 7, 2010 and the winners will be announced by September 17, 2010.
