Columbian Lawyers Association

Each year, the Association awards up to (4) four scholarship awards to law students of some Italian heritage presently attending law schools located within the City of New York and the Counties of Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester.  

  •  The awards require that the applicant has already been admitted and completed at least his/her first semester of studies.
Prize: The award consists of $2,500.00 for each year the student attends law school, for a maximum of three years for day students and four years for evening students.

Deadline: Applications for awards must be submitted by March 15th of the school year in which the award is granted. 

Complete and submit the application, which requires an essay indicating the source of your Italian heritage; the reason for the need of assistance; and a brief statement as to your accomplishments, goals and/or aspirations.  In support of your application, please be sure to indicate any special circumstances which may have a bearing on your application or special need of funds.

The Madelyn Orsini Award

Women Economic Developers of Long Island presents the The Madelyn Orsini Award annually to a female student who demonstrates the values of the WEDLI organization by their commitment to leadership and community service on Long Island.

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominated by an active member of WEDLI.
  • Primary resident of Nassau or Suffolk County
  • Attend an institution of Higher Education on Long Island 
  • successfully completed two years of undergraduate coursework or one year of graduate coursework. 
  • WEDLI members are not eligible for the award, but their family members are eligible.

Biennia Scholarship Program for the 2016-2017

The Essex County Bar Association and its Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in conjunction with the Hon. Vincent J. Biunno Memorial Fund, is pleased to announce the continuation of the Biunno Scholarship Program for the 2016-2017 school year. The scholarships are designed to offer financial assistance to persons with disabilities who are currently attending law school. For purposes of this scholarship, a disability is limited to a permanent physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual having such an impairment.

Criteria

1. Recipient must demonstrate a present and permanent physical or mental disability that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual. Medical documentation establishing the nature and extent of the disability will be required.

2. Recipient must be a resident of New Jersey. There will be a preference given to Essex County residents.

3. Recipient must have attained a 3.0 or equivalent GPA in law school, or if they are an incoming student, a 3.0 undergraduate student.

4. A preference will be given to a person seeking to pursue a career in the field of advocacy for persons with disabilities.

5. A preference will be given to students who can demonstrate financial needs.

Completed applications must be submitted with all requested documentation no later than May 9, 2016.

2016 Legal Writing Contest

The International Association of Defense Counsel announces its 2016 Legal Writing Contest, which is open to students in accredited law schools in the United States and Canada. IADC is an association of lawyers, barristers, solicitors, corporate counsel, and insurance executives from over 40 nations.

Topics
Entries must be the original work of a single author, not previously published, and they must cover the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence, or other areas of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense or management of the defense of civil litigation.

Monetary Awards
An IADC committee will judge the contest and will reward monetary prizes of US $2,000 for the first place, US $1,000 for second, and $500 for third place. The judges also may award honorable mentions. Winning and honorable mention entries will be considered for publications in the IADC's quarterly Defense Counsel Journal.

Deadline for 2016 Entries
Entries must be received on or before Friday, May 20, 2016.

Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition 2016

The competition is open to students enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program (day or
evening).  The subject matter must be directed to one of the traditional subject areas of
intellectual property, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade
practices and antitrust.  Entries must be submitted electronically by March 6, 2016, to the
address provided below.

PRIZE
The Winner will receive a cash award of $1,500.00

Peter DeSimone Student Scholarship Program

Overview 
The Peter DeSimone Student Scholarship Program is offered by the US SIF Foundation in collaboration with its Diversity and Inclusion Initiative. Up to ten undergraduate or graduate students who are committed to or interested in a career in sustainable, responsible and impact investment can receive scholarships to cover the registration costs for the US SIF Annual Conference, Investing for the Next Generation, including Member Day. 
The main objectives of the Scholarship Program are: 
1. To encourage students to enter the field of sustainable, responsible and impact investment upon graduation; and 

2. To provide an opportunity for students to learn directly from leaders and experts in the field of SRI, enhance their knowledge, network, and make professional contacts with US SIF member firms and organizations as well as other institutions attending our conference. 

Scholarship recipients receive:
 A scholarship for registration for US SIF’s Annual Conference in Washington, DC – May 2016 and
 a scholarship to attend US SIF Foundation’s in-person course, Fundamentals of Sustainable and responsible Investment, which will take place during the conference.
Who Should Participate: The Peter DeSimone Conference Scholarship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students that are:
1. enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application;
2. In good academic standing
3. Committed to a career in SRI (Background in sustainability, finance & investments or economics preferred); and 
4. Able to attend the entire conference from Monday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 25

The IBA 2016 Annual Conference Scholarship Programme

The Corporate Law Section are pleased to announce that they are offering scholarships to attend the 2016 IBA Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

The Scholarship will be awarded to young lawyers who wish to participate in the Annual Conference, but who may find financial difficulties in doing so. Applications are open to all qualified lawyers age 35 and under.
