On the evening of December 15, 2009 the New York City Bar will be holding its Annual Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Distinguished Lecture on Women and the Law. This lecture has been established to recognize Justice Ginsburg’s outstanding contribution to the advancement of women’s rights and her achievements as a practicing lawyer, law professor and judge.
This year's Lecture will be presented by Melanne Verveer, U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues.
The Lecture will be preceded by a buffet reception at 6:00 p.m. The Lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m.
There are ten complementary tickets available for students. If you are interested, please submit a one page letter about why you believe that you should be selected. Submit the paper to Marie Koch, Director of Student Services and Scholarship Aid, via email at mkoch@tourolaw.edu by Friday, November 6.

2010 Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest
The Public Justice Foundation is sponsoring the 2010 Roscoe Hogan Environmental Law Essay Contest. The topic is Can Coal Be Clean? Litigation Remedies for Coal Contamination from Mining to Combustion to Sequestration.

The Career Services Office and Family Law Society Present "The Life Insurance Crisis - What Every Law Student Should Know"
The Career Services Office and Family Law Society present "The Life Insurance Crisis - What Every Law Student Should Know" with guest speaker Randy Whitelaw, a nationally recognized life insurance expert. The program is being held on Monday, October 26 from 12:30-1:25 in the Faculty Conference Room (FCR).
Law students should be aware that many financial planners are worried that the life insurance industry is about to suffer a crisis equal to the mortgage industry. Rating agencies describe the insurance industry outlook as negative. Financial media publications have recognized the "tsunami" of lapsing policies. Congress is in the midst of a debate about whether the insurance industry is the next to be rescued.
This progress will discuss the need for attorney intervention and why every lawyer who counsels clients should understand the impact of an insurance industry collapse on families, businesses and the economy.

Queen's County Women's Bar Association Faith E. O'Neal Scholarship
The Queen's County Women's Bar Association announces the Faith E. O'Neal Scholarship.
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to two (2) outstanding law students who have demonstrated a sincere dedication to Public Interest. Eligble recipients are students enrolled in an ABA accredited law school, have completed their first full semester, and are domiciled in Queens County, etc.
The scholarships will be awarded at the Annual Judiciary Night, which will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Queens Museum of Art, Flushing Meadows Park, New York.
