Nassau County Women's Bar Foundation Scholarship

One of the missions of The Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation is to advance the status of women in the law. One of the ways to advance this mission is to grant a scholarship to an outstanding woman who has displayed a commitment to continuing to attend law school through her 2L and 3L years.

If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, fill out the application in its entirety and submit it with all requested materials to the Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation through one of the following means: (1) completed applications may be submitted by mail to the Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 395, Garden City, NY 11530; or (2) completed applications may be submitted by email to Lisa M. Casa, President of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation, at lcasa@forchellilaw.com.

To qualify for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

1) The applicant must be a woman.

2) The applicant must be a resident of Nassau County, NY.

3) The applicant must have been accepted to and currently enrolled in an accredited law school in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, Westchester, or Bronx.

4) The applicant must have graduated college with a GPA of at least 3.0.

5) The applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.75 in law school at the time the scholarship application is submitted.

6) The applicant should maintain a GPA of at least 2.75 in law school for the year to which the scholarship funds are applied.

7) The applicant should display characteristics consistent with the mission of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Foundation.

8) The applicant must demonstrate financial need.

The deadline for applications is October 21, 2019, and the scholarship will be awarded publicly at a luncheon scheduled for November 14, 2019. The recipient(s) will be invited (and strongly encouraged) to attend the luncheon with a guest.

Local and State Government Law Section Carol Van Scoyoc Scholarship

The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the Local and State Government Law
Section Carol Van Scoyoc Scholarship. The scholarship has been established by the Foundation
through a gift from the Local and State Government Law Section of the New York State Bar
Association (NYSBA) to honor the memory of Carol Van Scoyoc, Esq., a former chair of the
Section and recipient of the Association's Award for Excellence in Public Service, recognizing her
extraordinary contributions to the legal profession and the public good.

Each year, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a law student who best exemplifies the core
values important to Carol: academic excellence, a demonstrated interest in public service and an
interest in local government law.

Fifth Annual Queens County Bar Association LGBTQ Committee Law Student/Attorney Mixer/Networking Event

The LGBTQ Committee of the Queens County Bar Association is again planning a Law Student/Attorney mixer for this Fall and would like to invite as many law students/lawyers who live/work/study in Queens and neighboring areas. 

So students can plan in advance, this year's event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2019, 7:00pm - 8:30pm. This year the event will be held at Club Evolution, 76-19 Roosevelt Avenue, Jackson Heights NY.

They are inviting all law students, attorneys and friends to attend, meet and network with each other at this annual celebration. Kindly spread the word to as many colleagues, classmates, and friends as you like.

DON H. LIU SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Don H. Liu Scholars Program, Inc. (the “Program”) seeks to identify, cultivate and inspire future Asian American leaders within the legal profession in order to address the single most important reality facing Asian American professionals today – the barrier to advancement.

To apply to the Program, applicants must submit a completed Scholarship Application along with all supporting documents as detailed in the instructions set forth HERE.

The deadline to submit the Scholarship Application is 11:59 pm (Eastern Standard Time), November 1, 2019.

2020 Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship

Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among people are understood, respected, appreciated, and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. With this in mind, the Firm is delighted to announce that the 2020 Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship application is now available.

There will be three scholarships awarded to three diverse rising 2L law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2019. Recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position for the summer of 2020 in one of the Firm's offices. Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000, which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school, to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses.

ABA-Construct Forum Writing Competition

The competition is open to law students in good standing who were enrolled in an ABA accredited law school any time during calendar years 2018 and 2019.  Papers should address a topical issue of interest to the construction industry.  For further details click HERE.  All entries must be emailed by Friday, July 26, 2019.
