2010 Elder Law Section Scholarship

The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the 2010 Elder Law Section Scholarship. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a second year (2L) or third year (3L) law student who is enrolled in a law school in the State of New York during the 2010/2011 academic year and is actively participating in an Elder Law Clinic at the school during the 2010/2011 academic year.

The deadline is Friday, October 15, 2010.

The Legal Studies Institute, sponsored by The Fund for American Studies, is offering first and second year law students the chance to gain a first-hand look at the American legal system through legal internships, a constitutional law course, guest speakers and briefings, and professional development activities. The guaranteed legal internships allow students to gain the necessary work experience that future employers will expect in today's legal job market. Students will attend a 3-credit course on Constitutional law entitled, "The Founders Constitution." The course is accredited through Ohio Northern Law School, and all students who successfully complete the course will receive 3 transfer credits.

The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) Scholarship Fund

The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) Scholarship Fund, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of its applications for the 2010-2011 PRBA Scholarship Awards Program for Latino law students on its newly unveiled website, www.PRBA.net .

All Latino law students residing, or attending law school, in New York are eligible to apply for the Scholarship Awards, ranging between $1,500 to $2,000, subject to certain restrictions. Please click here for more information.

Following the receipt of completed applications by the deadline of March 13, 2010, the PRBA Scholarship Fund would select recipients based on financial need and academic promise. Scholarship recipients will be contacted directly by the PRBA. Please closely follow the application's instructions.

Attention Students: BLSA and the Criminal Law Society Present Guest Speaker Paul Butler

BLSA and the Criminal Law Society are hosting a program with guest speaker Paul Butler, a former prosecutor and the author of Lets Get Free: A Hip Hop Theory of Justice, this Thursday, February 25 at 12:30 p.m. in the FCR (next to the Cafe). Pizza will be served!!

It will be a lively program and an opportunity to network. As of now, there will be two Queens County ADA - Narcotics Division attorneys attending, Professor Chiu and her students from a criminal law class at St. Johns University School of Law, lawyers from Stewart Moore's office and other AMISTAD (the Black Bar Association in Long Island) members attending the program.

In addition, you will have an opportunity to buy one of Professor Butler’s books and have it signed right after the program. Several of your professors are very excited about the event so I hope you will come out in DROVES to support it!

Honorable William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition For 2010

The New York Intellectual Property Law Association has announced the Honorable William C. Conner Intellectual Property Law Writing Competition for 2010.  The competition is open to students enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program (day or evening).

WE CARE Diversity Law School Scholarship

The Nassau County Bar Association is providing the WE CARE Diversity Law School Scholarship to a deserving Touro Law student scheduled to graduate in May 2011.

Please submit a one page essay explaining how you plan to promote diversity in your practice of law in Nassau County. The essay is due by Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Please send the essay as a Word document to Director of Student Services and Scholarship Aid Marie Koch at mkoch@tourolaw.edu or deliver a hard copy to the Office of Student Services, room 302.
